Purpose and Goals
This site is part of the implementation of the CBD Clearing House Mechanism and is maintained by the Office of Environmental Response and Coordination (OERC). The OERC is part of the Office of the President of the Republic of Palau. In addition to advising the President on environment and sustainable development issues, the OERC is the operational focal point for the UNCBD, Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Biosafety Clearinghouse, and the conventions on climate change, desertification, ozone depletion, and persistent organic pollutants. The OERC is also mandated to facilitate a coordinated approach to Palau's response measures to environmental degradation, protection, and if possible, rehabilitation of natural habitats at the national level.
The OERC is also the Secretariat of the National Environmental Protection Council (NEPC). The NEPC is a multi-agency body with members from government, semi-government, and non-government organizations, as well as the private sector. The overall mandate of the NEPC is to identify, prioritize, and manage national environment issues within the context of sustainable development through the integration of these identified priorities into national planning processes. The NEPC is also the national steering committee for international environment and sustainable development initiatives within the Republic. For more information on the NEPC, please contact the Secretariat at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We strive to enhance the effective dissemination of information both in-country and with the international community on issues relating to the protection and on-going management of Palau's biodiversity.
We invite you to kindly report any interesting information about biodiversity related issues that may be of interest to Palau, Pacific islands, or Small Island Developing States in general. Submissions or quiries regarding this site, please email to the OERC at email@example.com.
